Where to Stay in Changsha: What the Hotel Lists Show

Last updated: 13 October 2026

Direct answer. Changsha's own four-star and inbound-tourism hotel lists concentrate on Furong District, the old downtown around Wuyi Square and Huangxing Road: 7 of the 16 four-star hotels and 6 of the 16 inbound-recommended hotels sit there. Yuhua, Kaifu, Yuelu and Changsha County each carry a handful; Liuyang and Ningxiang carry none.

Changsha's official four-star and inbound hotel lists point to Furong District, near Wuyi Square. Here is what those two lists show, district by district.

What this page is, and what it refuses to be

Every district name, hotel name and district attribution on this page comes from the two official hotel lists published by the Changsha municipal government's English portal, retrieved on 13 October 2026 and listed at the end. The two lists are reproduced as counts and as named entries; nothing on this page is a hotel review, and no rate, room type or availability is quoted.

Changsha publishes its accommodation twice over. One list is the province-level recommendation for inbound tourism, covering Hunan's 2025-2026 season; it names 16 hotels inside Changsha. The other is the city's own register of four-star hotels; it names 16 more. Both give each hotel's street address, and the address ends in a district.

That accident of formatting is what makes the lists useful. Read the addresses as districts and the city's own recommendation of where to stay falls out of the data, rather than out of an opinion.

This page does not tell you which hotel to book, does not quote a price or a star rating beyond the list the hotel appears on, and does not rank hotels against each other. It reports which districts the city's own lists put accommodation in, and what that implies about how the city is laid out.

The two lists this page reads

Both pages sit in the portal's Travel > Hotels section. There is a third page, Five-star Hotels in Changsha, updated 2025-07-04; it too is a 200 response, but its hotel entries are not present in the HTML the server returns, so this page does not use it and does not name any five-star hotel.

Where the two lists put accommodation, district by district

Every hotel on both lists carries a full street address, and every address names a district. Counting each list separately:

Our reading, not the portal's. The two right-hand columns and the percentages are this page's own count of the two published lists. The portal publishes the lists; it does not publish this table, and the district grouping is ours.

Two entries appear on both lists — Hunan Furama Hotel and Hunan Jolly (Junyi Shanshui) Hotel — so the 32 entries cover 30 distinct hotels, and a hotel that satisfies both the four-star register and the province's inbound recommendation is counted once in each column above.

Furong District: the district both lists agree on

Furong District carries 13 of the 32 list entries, and it is the only district that carries a majority of either list on its own. It also holds the largest single concentration of officially listed hotel stock in the city.

The urban core it covers is the old downtown: the Wuyi Avenue and Furong Middle Road spine, Bayi Road, and the Huangxing Road pedestrian axis. The addresses are unusually consistent about this. Of the seven four-star entries in Furong, four sit on the Bayi Road / Wuyi Avenue / Furong Middle Road group:

HotelAddress as published (L2, four-star list)
Hunan Furama HotelNo. 88, Bayi East Road, Furong District
Hunan Lotus Huatian HotelNo. 176, Wuyi Avenue, Furong District
Changsha Haicheng HotelNo. 58, Bayi Road, Furong District
Hunan HotelNo. 193, Yingpan East Road, Furong District

The inbound list adds the top of the same area, where the newest stock sits. Niccolo Changsha is listed at Building 1, Changsha IFS, No. 188, Jiefang West Road — the tower complex on the Jiefang Road axis — and Hunan Huatian Hotel at No. 300, Jiefang East Road. Both are in Furong District.

Our reading. The two lists describe the same place from two directions: the four-star register is weighted to the older Bayi Road and Wuyi Avenue addresses, and the inbound recommendation is weighted to the Jiefang Road addresses. Both are Furong District, and the difference between them is measured in a few hundred metres of the same downtown, not in a choice of district.

The other districts the lists cover

Outside Furong, the lists spread thinly and each cluster answers a different question.

Yuhua District (4 entries) takes the south-eastern approach along Xiangfu Road and Furong South Road, and it is the only district other than Furong that carries entries on both lists in the same direction. Wyndham Hotel Changsha, on the inbound list, is published at No. 48, Xiangfu Middle Road.

Kaifu District (4 entries) holds the north-of-the-river side and the river crossing. Hunan Saint-Tropez Hotel is listed east of the Liuyang River Grand Bridge; the four-star register adds Fucheng Road and Furong Middle Road First Section.

Yuelu District (3 entries) is the west bank, and the only district where the listed stock is visibly built around a single destination rather than a street grid. Meixi Lake Hotel Changsha is listed at No. 1177, Huanhu Road, Meixi Lake — the lake-and-new-town cluster on the western side, well away from the old downtown.

Changsha County (4 entries) is the airport-and-industry corridor to the east. Three of its four entries come from the inbound list — including Steigenberger Changsha at Huangxing Town and Whiersly Hotels at Quantang — and the addresses sit along the Lixiang Road and airport approach rather than in the city core.

Wangcheng District (2 entries) and Tianxin District (1 entry) complete the spread. Wangcheng's two entries are both at Tongguan Kiln (Tongguanyao), the ceramics-tourism site north-west of the city. Tianxin's single entry, Hunan Jolly (Junyi Kangnian) Hotel, is listed at No. 508-3, Furong Middle Road, on the boundary with Furong.

The districts neither list touches, and why that matters

The municipal portal lists nine administrative divisions for Changsha: Furong District, Tianxin District, Yuelu District, Kaifu District, Yuhua District, Changsha County, Wangcheng District, Liuyang City and Ningxiang City.

Two of those nine — Liuyang City and Ningxiang City — carry no entry on either hotel list. That is not a statement that they have no accommodation; both are county-level cities with their own tourist trades, and Liuyang in particular appears elsewhere on the portal's hotels page in a separate article about a mountain resort in Daweishan Town. It is a statement about what these two lists are for: a four-star register and a province-level inbound recommendation, both of which follow the urban hotel market.

One address label on the inbound list also falls outside the nine divisions: Ramada Plaza Hotel (Changsha Dahan Jinqiao Branch) is published in Xiangjiang New Area, a development zone spanning the west bank rather than an administrative division. A reader planning by district should treat that entry as west-bank rather than as a tenth district.

How to use this

  1. Start from Furong District if you want the city's own lists to be densest around you. Thirteen of the 32 published entries are there, and it is the only district where both lists point the same way.
  2. Check the address, not the star level, for what you are actually near. Every entry on both lists carries a street address; the district is the last comma-separated field. Two hotels on the same list in the same district can be several kilometres apart.
  3. Read Yuelu and Changsha County as destination choices, not as downtown substitutes. Yuelu's listed stock clusters at Meixi Lake; the county's clusters near Huangxing and Lixiang Road toward the airport.
  4. Treat Liuyang and Ningxiang as separate trips. Neither appears on the two city-focused lists.
  5. Verify before you book. These are hotel lists published in 2025 and updated since; the lists record which hotels the authorities recognised, not what is open this week.

Our reading. On the evidence of the two published lists, the accommodation question in Changsha is less "which district" than "which part of Furong District, or which of the two satellite clusters." The city's own documents do not spread their recommendation evenly and do not pretend to.

Frequently asked questions

Which district should I stay in in Changsha?

On the two official lists this page reads, Furong District is where the city's own hotel listing is densest: 13 of the 32 published entries, made up of 7 of the 16 four-star hotels and 6 of the 16 hotels on the province's inbound-tourism recommendation for 2025-2026. Yuhua, Kaifu and Changsha County carry four entries each.

What is the best area to stay in Changsha for a first visit?

Furong District, on the published addresses. The two lists concentrate on the Wuyi Avenue and Furong Middle Road spine and on the Jiefang Road axis, which is the old downtown core. If instead your trip is built around the airport or around an industrial visit to the east, Changsha County carries four entries, three of them on the inbound list.

Does Changsha have an official hotel list?

Yes, two. The Changsha municipal government's English portal publishes a four-star hotel register for the city (page updated 2025-08-28, 16 entries) and carries the Hunan Province inbound-tourism hotel recommendation for 2025-2026, whose Changsha section names 16 hotels (page updated 2025-09-03). Both are published in the portal's Travel > Hotels section. A separate five-star list page exists, updated 2025-07-04, but its entries are not present in the served HTML.

Why do Liuyang and Ningxiang not appear on the hotel lists?

They are two of Changsha's nine administrative divisions, but neither appears on the four-star register or on the inbound-tourism list, because both lists are urban hotel lists. Liuyang does appear on the portal's hotels section in a separate article about a resort in Daweishan Town.

How many of the listed hotels are in one district?

Thirteen of the 32 published entries are in Furong District. Counting each list separately, that is 7 of the 16 four-star entries and 6 of the 16 inbound-list entries. Two hotels — Hunan Furama Hotel and Hunan Jolly (Junyi Shanshui) Hotel — appear on both lists, so the 32 entries cover 30 distinct hotels.
